GET STAIN GEL

Blood stains on the sheets or on the mattress are never welcome BUT it’s a very common stain that most of us will have to deal with at some point or other.

And while it may look dramatic… it’s usually an easy fix, especially if you follow our step by step guides below.

And there are 2 key things to remember when dealing with blood stains.
    1. Always deal with the stain as soon as you spot it because the older it becomes, the harder it is to remove.
    2. Never use hot water on a blood stain. You will “cook” the proteins into the material, making it even harder to remove.

fresh blood stains.

Removing fresh blood stains from sheets is pretty straightforward, especially if you have a little help from smol cleaning products.

    1. Strip the sheet off the bed and check the care label to be sure the following treatments are safe.
    2. Run the stain under cold water for about 5 minutes from the reverse side. This way you are pushing the stain back out the way it came.
    3. Gently rub the stain with hand bar soap using some more cold water.
    4. Pop the sheet into your washing machine with your usual laundry detergent. smol bio capsules have excellent stain removal abilities especially when you are washing at cooler temperatures.
    5. Select a cycle no hotter than 30°C. The cooler the better.
    6. Hang your sheets to dry indoors or even better outside in the sunshine. Do NOT use the tumble dryer as any remaining stain will be set further into the sheet by the heat.

dried blood stains.

Blood stains that have dried and are older can be a little harder to remove so it may take more effort.

    2. Soak the stained sheet in a sink or bowl of cold water for an hour.
    3. Wring out most of the water and apply several pumps of smol stain gel to the blood stain.

mattress protectors.

If the stain has soaked through to a mattress protector you should find you can follow the steps above in exactly the same way. But always check the care label first.

how to clean blood from a mattress.

If you don’t have a mattress protector, or if the blood has soaked through that as well… then you might be faced with a blood stain on the actual mattress itself.

    1. Gently blot the stain with a clean damp cloth and cold water.  You may find some of the blood starts to seep onto the cloth, keep going like this until no more blood is being removed.
    2. Apply a small amount of smol stain gel to the area and leave for 5 minutes. Do not allow the gel to dry.
    3. Carefully blot away at the stain with your cloth and cold water until all the stain gel and stain has been removed.
    4. Leave to air dry.
