How to clean your clothes without doing any laundry.

The easiest way to save money (plus water, energy and detergent) on your everyday laundry is to simply not do it in the first place!  And you’d be surprised just how many times we wash items that really never needed to be laundered.

So, here are 5 smol ways to ‘clean’ clothes without the clean…

1. spray away

Pop a couple of pumps of our animal-fat free fabric conditioner into an empty spray bottle filled with water. Give it a shake and spritz onto your clothes and bedding. They’ll smell fresh and fabulous again in no time and this also encourages any creases to fall out. All from a product that you already have under your sink. It’s perfect for hardier fabrics and jumpers that don't *quite* need a wash yet. We love this tip and you can learn more about when to use fabric conditioner here.

2. freezy does it

Ever heard the one about putting your clothes in a large freezer bag and shoving them in the freezer overnight? Well, now you have! This is super useful for items like jeans that can lose their fit when washed. In fact when it comes to jeans, Levi’s CEO Chip Bergh once famously revealed he hadn’t washed his jeans in over a year and maintained jeans should NEVER be put in the washing machine! So perhaps the cold treatment is not so crazy after all. Freezing temperatures will kill the bacteria that can cause unwanted odours in your clothing so why not give it a try?

3. just hang out

Nothing breathes new life into your clothing quite like a blast of fresh air. So our third tip is simply hanging your clothes out and skipping the wash. If you don’t have access to an outside line simply hang your item in front of an open window. Air moving through clothing is a great way to refresh fabrics naturally and the added bonus of some sunlight makes for a perfect natural cleaner. Sunlight kills bacteria because of the ultraviolet rays so it’s a win-win scenario and completely FREE!

4. get steamy

Steam works wonders on clothing and can rescue many an outfit without having to resort to the washing machine. Running an iron over a garment will not only get rid of any creases (the tell-tale sign that it’s already been worn)… but it will also kill off bacteria that could be causing an odour. If you are having a shower you can also hang your clothing in the bathroom. Any steam will cause the fibres in the fabric to relax and this basically helps release any smells from the threads. No iron required!

5. hit the spot

Oftentimes clothing just doesn’t need a full all-over wash… just a little targeted attention. Spot cleaning marked or stained areas only with a clean damp cloth and our super smol stain gel is often all that’s needed to bring an item back up to scratch. Wet the area of concern then apply a couple of pumps of stain gel and rub gently into the mark. Leave for a couple of minutes and then rinse with clean cold water. Hey presto, no-wash washing just got real!
