getting the best from your smol

Everyone loves a top ten and we’re no exception here at smol. So how about our ten best-loved tips, tricks and bits of info to help you get the very best from all your smol favourites around the house.

  1. smol laundry capsules should ALWAYS go in the empty drum first, right at the back. Just pop your laundry on top. This traps them in the pooling water beneath the clothes as the cycle starts and stops them flying towards the door seal as the drum starts to turn. It will keep your laundry residue-free.
    .
  2. What’s best for stain removal? Bio contains enzymes which are great at stain removal especially at today’s cooler wash temperatures. The Good Housekeeping Institute recommends smol bio for its excellent stain removal – it really does give great results.
    .
  3. Any allergies or sensitive skin? Our lovely non bio was designed for sensitive skin and dermatologically tested. We have thousands of customers happily using this who suffer from skin sensitivities such as atopic eczema, psoriasis and contact dermatitis. It’s also popular with families who have babies of all ages.
    .
  4. Dishwash tablet not dissolving? Don’t panic! This can happen with some dispenser systems, especially if they are a little damp or sticky. There’s a really easy fix! Just put the tablet directly on the dishwasher floor before shutting the door and starting the cycle. This is similar to placing your laundry capsule in the washing machine drum. You’re just by-passing the dispenser system. Try it out – it really works!
    .
  5. What are your tablets wrapped in? Our laundry and dishwash are encased in a polyvinyl alcohol which is fully soluble and biodegrades down into water and carbon dioxide – no need to remove it. Our spray tablets are wrapped in a compostable packaging that you can add to your food waste, refuse bin or home composting.
    .
  6. Should I add salt and rinse aid to smol dishwash tablets? Nope! It’s already included. Unless you are in exceptionally hard water areas you should find it’s just not needed, and nor is glass protector as that’s also built-in too!
    .
  7. Washing smelling musty? Don’t panic. This can mean a build-up of bacteria which occurs in even the cleanest of machines. If it’s damp, warm and sitting idle for 12 hours, the bacteria will grow. Low washing temperatures also contribute but there’s a simple fix. Pour 2 cups of white vinegar into the drawer and run an empty wash on your hottest cycle. It’s an environmentally friendly (and cheap) way to keep your machine clean, killing bacteria and preventing limescale. Try it – it really works!
    .
  8. Our smol smells are what most customers love best about their smol. Our multipurpose spray has a sparkling sweet spritz of citrus for a zesty fresh fragrance whilst the bathroom gives a refreshing burst of uplifting ocean spray for a pure clean scent. There is however no fragrance to our glass spray. Our laundry fragrance is not artificially strong or overpowering as we use ethically sourced essential oils to create our unique smol smell; however, if you prefer a more vivid scent try our wonderful animal fat-free fabcon, the fragrance is incredible!
    .
  9. Want to get the best from your animal fat-free fabcon? Most customers find that just 4 pumps (a tiny total of 8ml) in the conditioner compartment of the dispenser drawer gives all the fragrance and softness required. If your drum is oversized, you are washing a large, full load or you prefer a good strong scent then you might like to experiment with more. It’s very much down to personal preference.
    .
  10. How and what can I clean with your surface sprays? For best results use a clean microfibre cloth with your sprays and for glass make sure it is dry. You will not need to use as much spray for your glass as you might be used to, think less is more! Use our multipurpose on all water-cleanable surfaces like treated wood, painted/glazed surfaces, stone, plastic, tiles and worktops. Our bathroom cleaner is suitable for water-cleanable surfaces like tiles, showers, bath tubs and toilets. It contains an anti-calc so regular use will protect against limescale. If spraying on metal such as gold, silver or copper then avoid prolonged contact and don’t use on natural stone or marble. In case of doubt always test on an unexposed surface and rinse in case of food-contact.
