...of smol laundry capsules
Let’s take a look at Persil’s latest laundry innovation.
It’s called Wonder Wash; a liquid detergent with a multi million pound campaign to encourage us all into speedy 15 minute laundry cycles.
It instantly got us thinking…
We wonder why Persil wants us to do more washes on a quick cycle?
We wonder why they’ve made yet another product in single-use plastic?
We wonder why they’re pushing convenience culture that tempts us from sustainability?
They’ve paid the fastest man on the planet to tell us “Fast just got better”… yeah but not for the planet Persil…
here’s the first problem.
Quick washes aren’t meant for full loads.
Want to wash fast? You can only clean a few items at a time. Check your washing machine manual, or Wonder Wash’s own recommendations… a quick Wonder Wash means you’re washing just 1.5kg of clothing.
Which means MORE washes overall.
Quick wash programmes still use 60% of the water and 40% of the energy that a full load washed on a standard cycle uses¹. But you’ll end up with a fraction of the clean laundry. No wonder consumer watchdog Which? have been saying for years that quick cycles may not be the money or energy savers we had thought.²
The average UK washing machine drum is designed for loads of 8-9 kg.³ And this is what we should be aiming for… running our machines with full loads of laundry on a standard cycle or better yet an eco wash setting. Getting the most bang for our buck.
When Persil encourages us all to use the quick wash option… that’s not progress; in fact it’s the exact opposite of what sustainable brands have been championing.
And what about the ingredients in Wonder Wash’s formulation?
chemical content.

As you can see, Persil Wonder Wash certainly packs in the chemicals. There’s an incredible 42 separate chemicals in their bio formulation (compared to smol’s 24) and the non-bio Wonder Wash has more than double the number of chemicals than smol non-bio.
a big thumbs down…
The importance of cutting out these small loads and trying to #washwell, is something we’ve been advocating here at smol since day one.
In our opinion, Wonder Wash means fast just got worse for the planet. FULL LOADS on a cool wash are the real way to save. It seems like Persil is pretty slow on the uptake. Come on Persil, you must have tons of very smart product developers? Why can’t you #bemoresmol ?
BUT good to know that smol capsules will clean your full loads even on a cold 30 minute cycle (20°C). It’s the revolutionary way to wash… enjoying the most clean clothes for the least energy, water and chemicals; and it’s the opposite of what Wonder Wash would have you do.
Join the smol revolution and….
