We’re not exactly sure who wants to read a blog about laundry (or dishwashing), but having one helps more people find us on the internet – so every so often we’ll post an update, maybe some detergent trivia, perhaps a joke about non-bio, sometimes even an ode to the dirty dishes. Welcome to a smol blog. posted.

the unsung hero of the utility

Posted by smol on

Let’s hear it for the washing machine. It’s an unsung heroine of the utility and here at smol (the home of laundry revolution) we applaud this revolutionary marvel.   Imagine life before washing machines. Early humans washed their laundry in rivers with no soap and a lot of thrashing about on rocks. It was hard work. Egyptians were busy dodging crocodiles whilst ancient Britons prayed for sunshine to get the drying done.   The ever-inventive Romans made machines called Fulling Mills. These tiny watermills worked hammers that bashed the clothes clean. Slightly better than the river dance but without soap...

do astronauts wash their smols?

There are some big space fans here at smol. We have been following the recent adventures of the SpaceX Dragon and were excited to see its safe descent into the Atlantic Ocean after its successful docking with the International Space Station.   Talk turned to life in space and we couldn’t help but wonder about laundry. With 3 crew members on board each staying 6 months, that’s over 540 pairs of pants! Clearly, it’s not practical to take that many into orbit so they must be cleaning them somehow? Our smol capsules don’t need much room so we think they...

Luckily for us and our more modest pies there are smol’s very new and very brilliant dishwash tablets. Just pop one in the dishwasher and those dirty dishes will be a thing of the past.   However,...

Big vs. smol

Posted by smol on

“Look how big you are!”, “we’re going to need a bigger boat”, “think big” – we’re constantly told how great it is to be big. Tom Hanks famously used a magic genie wish on it.   But what if instead of being big, we could have all of the qualities, but in a smaller form? Laundry is infamously synonymous with this notion of big; overflowing piles of clothes, large detergent boxes and huge powder scoops.   But, at smol, we’ve started the laundry revolution. Think Ant-Man, of the laundry world; all the power of a larger man but concentrated into...
