As the heat of the UK summer continues rising, we’ve had more and more requests for tips on how to remove sun cream stains.
Sun cream stains are oil based, making them a nightmare to remove! Everyone’s heard of the famous ‘slip, slop, slap’ sun protection campaign. So whilst you’re protecting yourself from the sun, we’ve come up with a nifty campaign to protect your clothes from suncream.
As soon as you can, slip out of your stained clothes & try to rinse any sun cream marks inside-out under a cold, running tap to remove any excess product. Try not to wipe the stain as this will push the sun-cream further into the fibres.
Slop some washing up liquid directly onto the stain and massage it into the fabric. Once the washing up liquid is rubbed it, rinse the fabric again under a cold running tap.
Next, you’ll need to create a soaking solution that will cut through the grease and break down the oil in the stain. Fill a large bowl with equal parts water and white vinegar, and put the stained item of clothing directly into the solution. Leave to soak for an hour.
Then slap your clothes into the washing machine, and wash as normal with your smol capsule. Check the garment before drying it and repeat these steps until the sun cream stain has been fully removed.
We definitely wouldn’t recommend tumble drying the clothing as if there are any traces of the sun cream left, a hot tumble dryer can set the stain and make it impossible to remove.
