easy as pie

In 1998 a group of catering students from Stratford-upon-Avon cooked the world’s largest Steak and Kidney pie. The pie dish measured nearly 10 metres long by over 2 metres wide and was 0.6m deep. That’s a lot of pie. And a lot of pastry (816.69kg to be precise).

We are sure the pie was delicious but can you imagine the washing up? Luckily for us and our more modest pies there are smol’s very new and very brilliant dishwash tablets. Just pop one in the dishwasher and those dirty dishes will be a thing of the past.

However, for those moments when a little extra help is needed (or for when you are cooking a record breaker and don’t have a dishwasher the size of a double decker bus)

we have gathered some top tips and tricks to get your casseroles clean and your pyrex polished.

Next time that burnt on gunk is refusing to budge try adding 2 tablespoons of baking soda to your dish washing liquid for an extra boost of cleaning power then scrub with a scouring pad.

If your dish is safe on top of a hob, pour in 1-part white vinegar to 4-parts water and simmer on a low heat for 5 minutes. Leave to cool then wipe away burnt food. Magic.

If you’d rather just chill out why not pop the dish in the freezer for 3 hours. It makes the burnt-on food much easier to remove – just use your normal dish washing liquid and a scourer when the chill time is up.

Our top tip of all is time! Whichever method you plump for - speed is the key. The longer the grease and burnt on food has to build up – the harder it is to remove, so get those rubber gloves on and let us know which tip works for you.
